Graves (e-mail grave002@tc.umn.edu) is a professor and heads the Literacy Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA. His research focuses on vocabulary development, comprehension development, and effective instruction. His recent books include Reading for Meaning: Fostering Comprehension in the Middle Grades (edited with B. Taylor and P. van den Broek, Teachers College Press/International Reading Association, 1999), Reading and Learning in Content Areas (with R. Ryder, Wiley, 1998), Teaching Reading in the 21st Century (with C. Juel and B. Graves, Allyn & Bacon, 1998), and Scaffolding Reading Experiences: Designs for Student Success (with B. Graves, Christopher-Gordon, 1994). Graves currently chairs the Research Program Development subcommittee of the International Reading Association's Studies and Research Committee.
