Survey question 11: Would you like to spend more, less, or the same amount of time than you are now spending on SSR?
Responses of those who indicated that they would like to spend more time:
- I would like one day per week, but it is difficult because it is a half year course.
- I believe that the real purpose of reading class is to have the students become lifelong readers.
- To encourage more reading.
- I'd like SSR to be district wide especially during our long homeroom period.
- Make it a school activity period.
- I get caught up in other stuff.
- Motivational aspect of student selected reading material.
Responses of those who indicated that they would like to spend the same amount of time:
- If students are really involved in what they are reading, I will give more time that day. Ten to fifteen minutes seems to be long enough for some of the poorer readers.
- I use SSR as a starter activity, and hope it carries over to home and 'Down Time.'
- I need the other minutes for individual and group direct instruction.
- I really would like more but the curriculum demands....
- We have a good balance of reading and instruction.
- I do a great deal of silent reading in my class other then SSR.
