Kenneth J. Weiss, facilitator of ROLs Online Communities for volume 4 (2000-2001) of the e-journals publication, is an associate professor of education and director of Literacy Education Programs at Nazareth College of Rochester, New York, USA. He received his Ed.D. in reading from Rutgers University. Ken serves on the editorial review boards of The NYS Language and Literacy Spectrum and Multicultural Perspectives, and on the book manuscript review board of the International Reading Association. He is a past-president of IRA's Children's Literature and Reading Special Interest Group and recently acted as a Children's Choices team coordinator. He chaired the National Council of Teachers of English Notable Children's Books in the Language Arts selection committee and serves on the technology committee of the National Reading Conference. He is also an active member of The National Conference on Research in Language and Literacy and the National Association for Multicultural Education, and presents regularly at meetings and workshops. As senior consultant for Literacy Consultants of Western New York, Ken works closely with regional school districts to improve their literacy programs at all grade levels. He is a former elementary and middle school teacher and the former owner of a children's bookstore. His research interests focus on children's oral and written response to literature, reading strategies for content learning, the selection and use of children's multicultural literature in school literacy programs, and the use of technology in the classroom. |
