Important Mailing Lists for the Literacy Education Community

RTEACHER: A mailing list devoted to conversations about all forms of literacy education, including the use of the Internet for literacy and learning. The educators on the list are very supportive of others new to the Internet. Currently, there are approximately 400 subscribers. TAWL (administrative address, listserv@listserv.arizona.edu; posting address, awl@listserv.arizona.edu ): A discussion group on teaching from a whole language perspective. Archives are located at http://listserv.arizona.edu/lsv/www/tawl.html Currently, there are approximately 400 subscribers.

NCTE-talk: This is the main mailing list for the National Council of Teachers of English. It is a high traffic list. At the NCTE website address, http://www.ncte.org/chat you can subscribe to a number of different listservs/mailing lists devoted to English education, K-12.

KIDLIT-L (administrative address, listserv@bingvmb.cc; posting address, kidlit-l@bingvmb.cc): This is a list for people interested in children's literature. Many librarians subscribe, so it is a perfect place to find titles in areas that interest you. This is also a very supportive list. Currently, there are approximately 3,000 subscribers.

MULTC-ED (administrative address, listserv@umdd.umd.edu ; posting address, multc-ed@umdd.umd.edu): This mailing list offers a forum to discuss diversity issues. Topics include gender, disability, race, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. A useful list to better understand issues of multicultural education. Currently, there are approximately 500 subscribers.

K-12ADMIN (administrative address, listserv@listserv.syr.edu; posting address, k12admin@listserv.syr.edu): Participants on this list include teachers and K-12 administrators. Topics covered include core curriculum instruction, implementation of media technologies in the classroom, and staff development. This is a useful listserv for all educators interested in school-related issues. Currently, there are approximately 1,200 subscribers.

Web66 (administrative address, listserv@tc.umn.edu; posting address, web66@tc.umn.edu): This list offers educators an opportunity to discuss how the World Wide Web affects the K-12 curriculum. Teachers also exchange information about how to effectively integrate the web into the classroom. Currently, there are approximately 1,100subscribers.
