Larry Miller, who served as editor of the International Perspectives department during volume 4 (2000-01) of Reading Online, is a professor emeritus in the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He is a two-time winner of the Golden Apple award for teaching excellence.

Larry’s interest in computer technology began in the early 1980s when he was part of a software development team that produced programs for small, stand-alone computers. One of the products, The Puzzler, received the AMTEC award for software. His interest moved from software development to research, and for many years he carried out investigations into teachers’ and children’s use of computers, pursuing such topics as the use of CD-ROM talking books, multimedia composing, and integrated learning systems. With coauthor John Olson, he contributed a chapter to the Handbook of Literacy and Technology, edited by David Reinking et al. (and reviewed elsewhere in this journal).

A long-time member of the International Reading Association, Larry has given presentations at the annual convention, worked with the Special Interest Group on Microcomputers in Reading, and served as a peer reviewer for IRA research grant applications. He has also served on the editorial advisory boards of five journals and as the Canadian representative to Technical Committee 3 on Education of the International Federation for Information Processing.
