Rosy picked up the book and a bookmark I had been using, a rose sent to me in Front Royal, Virginia, by my fiancé (now husband). I had met Rosy earlier, in Duncannon, Pennsylvania, and had shown her both the rose and the book. Rosy kept the rose throughout the remainder of her thru-hike and sent it to me by mail months later.
